Way back in 2013, Cory Barlog and his team of 300 (see what I did there?) at Santa Monica Studios were set a herculean task of putting together a game that would revitalize a flagging franchise, by not only reaching out to loyalists but also catering to an entirely new generation of gamers.
After receiving numerous awards and titles and being hailed as a critical masterpiece, the folks over at Santa Monica decided to go a step further and share an incredibly well documented glimpse (an understatement, it does a lot more than that!) at the development of the game. ‘Raising Kratos’ offers an amazing behind the scenes look at how arduous the task really is – from game mechanics to motion capture and from world design to story arcs, the video game industry does it all.
Running in at around the 2 hour mark, the documentary puts the human element front and center by focussing on the team that had the unenviable task of delivering a game that would not be panned by critics and players alike.
But it’s safe to say that ‘God of War’ is an absolute gem of a game and I highly recommend you go out there and get a copy. As for ‘Raising Kratos’, the full length documentary can be viewed above. So head on over and give it a go. Trust me, it won’t disappoint.
