The Complete Experience: Chernobyl

HBO has developed an arsenal when it comes to mini-series. Created for the small screen by Craig Mazin and loosely based on accounts from the book ‘Voices of Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich’, the show “chronicles the behind-the-scenes drama and horror of the infamous 1986 disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine.” – Tom Shackleford, Live for Live Music

‘Chernobyl’ isn’t perfect and it does favour fiction over fact, in some areas, but it does a commendable job at capturing the tone and essence of the disaster and its aftermath. Something that could not have been accomplished without a spectacular score.

Enter Hildur Ingveldardóttir Guðnadóttir, who created the music by recording the sounds of a decommissioned power plant in Lithuania – A hauntingly beautiful soundtrack that is both ominous and frenetic.
Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgård and Emily Watson, form part of the ridiculously good ensemble cast.

The Emmy Award winning show warrants a deep dive into history and for the complete experience – The show, the Podcast and for an extremely accurate account, the book by Adam Higginbotham – Midnight in Chernobyl: The Untold Story of the World’s Greatest Nuclear Disaster.

Fun fact: Craig Mazin returns to HBO with the adaptation of ‘The Last of Us’.
