Film Highlight | Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Film Highlight | Portrait of a Lady on Fire
I've yet to write a full blown review of this one but Céline Sciamma's Noémie Merlant starrer probably was the best film of 2020, for me. Minimal dialogue coupled with gorgeous cinematography and radiant performances by the leads make 'Portrait of a Lady on Fire' a hauntingly beautiful tale of love, loss and acceptance. You absolutely must catch this one on Amazon Prime.

Fun Fact: Sciamma's co-written 'Paris, 13th District' - which has made it to my 10 Films To Look Forward To List - alongside Jacques Audiard and Léa Mysius.

TV Highlight | The White Lotus
TV Highlight | The White Lotus
'The White Lotus' is an extremely smart satire with an intriguing genre-bending premise, a dollop of quirk and well rounded characters. This one is still underway - with a 6 episode story arc - and there are still 2 episodes left. It's a good time to jump onboard! Stream it now on Disney Plus Hotstar.

Book Highlight | The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue
Book Highlight | The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue
Set in Dublin, during the First World War and at the height of The Great Flu, Emma Donoghue's mesmerisingly vivid and poignant tale is one for the ages. Based almost entirely within the confines of a maternity ward at a hugely understaffed hospital, a nurse and her rather unusual companion try to save the lives of expectant mothers and their children. A bittersweet tale that has huge potential to be adapted as a mini-series, 'The Pull of the Stars' is easily one of my favourite books of all time.
