Film Highlight
Preparation for the Next Life
Prime Video

A true worldie of a film that's been on my Watchlist since last year. Sebiye Behtiyar is a tour-de-force as she steers this evocative gut wrenching portrait of the life of an undocumented immigrant in New York.

"A Uyghur woman moves to New York City where she finds herself laboring in Chinatown's underground kitchens. She fatefully encounters Skinner, a young American soldier who's just returned from three tours in the Middle East. As they start to fall in love, they discover the possibility of a better life together than the ones they believed they were destined to live alone."

TV Highlight
Lanterns
Disney+/ Hotstar

And that's how you make an origin story stick. Damon Lindelof - creator/ showrunner on Lost, The Leftovers & Watchmen - seems to be on his way out though. Not to mention the horrendous Paramount + WB merger. Enjoy it while it lasts folks.

"Based on the DC comic "Green Lantern," drama series "Lanterns" follows new recruit John Stewart and "Lantern" legend Hal Jordan. These two intergalactic cops are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland."

Book Highlight
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

Yes. I know. I'm late to the party. Persepolis is even more relevant today than ever before.

"Marjane, a rebellious Iranian, leaves the country after she struggles through her teenage years as she tries to escape religious fundamentalism and extremism. However, she feels terribly homesick."
