Documentary Highlight The Design Trilogy by Gary Hustwit |
Gary Hustwit's 'The Design Trilogy' continues to influence, inspire and inject a new found curiosity about the world around us, whenever I return to his three splendid documentaries on design. Hustwit - a creative in the record industry, turned indie filmmaker - grew frustrated when he couldn't find a proper film that spoke about the influence of Font on our everyday lives. So he went about making one! From 'Helvetica' to 'Objectified' to 'Urbanized' , Hustwit effortlessly moves from one scale to the next - as he tries to bring focus to everyday things that we take for granted.
P.S. There's a whole lot more that he's worked on since The Trilogy. So do check out his work! |

TV Highlight Chef's Table |
Netflix's 'Chef's Table' is a work of Art that will uplift, energise and spur you onwards! David Gelb, take a bow.
"Some of the most renowned chefs in the world share their deeply personal stories, inspirations, and unique styles. Each chef's discipline and culinary talent is explored while he or she prepares an awe-inspiring creation."
P.S. You gotta watch 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi' as well! |

Book Highlight Show Your Work by Austin Kleon |
Austin Kleon describes himself as "a writer who draws". That's him being modest. In reality, Kleon's a powerhouse of creativity whose writings gave me the confidence to take the plunge and start the website and this newsletter. 'Show Your Work' did it for me. But I'm pretty sure you'll want the entire Trilogy - 'Steal Like An Artist' and 'Keep Going' complete the set. |

Podcast Highlight Design Matters with Debbie Millman |
Debbie Millman's fantastic podcast on design has been around since 2005. Trust me, you don't need to look elsewhere for that design fix.
"The world's first podcast about design and an inquiry into the broader world of creative culture through wide-ranging conversations with designers, writers, artists, curators, musicians, and other luminaries of contemporary thought." |

Dig Delve |
I've always been fascinated by landscape design, so much so that my Architectural Thesis explored 'the rejuvenation of a historical cemetery in the heart of New Delhi' - but that's a tale for another day and another post. Having said that, here's a rather comforting and intriguing blog run by Dan Pearson, where he talks about gardening, food and his adventures as a Landscape Designer.
"Dig Delve is an online magazine focussed on the writing of garden and landscape designer Dan Pearson, with photography by his partner, Huw Morgan, who also edits and contributes recipes and interviews." |
